Production Blog: Editing Process
Hi guys!! Hope you're all having a fantastic day today! Editing the video sure had its challenges. I am currently working on editing it and I have tried my best to work on transitions and for the videos and audio to mix well with the song.
For instance at the start, during the beat drops I made it so it switched to different videos giving it a nice effect. This allowed me to play with the video and audio clips to my liking and it ended up making a very nice finishing touch to parts of the video. As some parts of the song were slow with lyrics while other parts were more fast paced with a faster beat it made it hard to use the clips. However, I am sure glad that I recorded way too many videos at the Japanese Garden, it allowed me to use a bit from almost every video which was cool to me.
I wanted to combine this song and the breathtaking garden together because I believed that they have similar aesthetic. After almost being done editing, I believe that to be the case. To enhance the video's overall aesthetic, I also delved into color grading, opting for warm and vibrant tones that complemented the song's atmosphere. I even added little things to my music video.
For instance, I added a title to give credit to the song name and the author along with it and even added it so it slowly fades in and out. Which gave it a nice touch because I was able to use certain videos along with text that felt like "opening" videos that should be the first video I show. It gave a nice introduction to the type of video I was trying to create. Along with having a "closing" video I used a video of me sitting down on a bench and the camera behind me. Which felt like a nice touch to the end of the video as it felt as if I was saying that this was the end. I believe that having a certain order on my music video allowed it to flow and seem like a story. Rather then a bunch of clips mashed together. I used videos of me walking around the garden and clips of the garden itself. I even had a video of me stepping out of my car that matched up with the lyrics themselves when SZA says, "Good day in my mind, safe to take a step out". Which I thought was clever. Since I was stepping out of the car and the "Good day" in mind is the garden. Which I found to be very clever and in my eyes, played out as a nice story in the end.
Goodnight guys!
P.S. Here's a picture of me editing my video!
